Phone Ahead

Tom Samiljan

Palm Pilot and Palm PC "smart" phones may be convenient hybrids, but they're still as big as the average early '90s mobile. Motorola's tri-band GSM A388 offers a solution with its A388, which is about the size of the original StarTAC and offers many of the features of the more ubiquitous PDA operating systems: contact list, date book, memo pad, e-mail and Web browser. Motorola's proprietary OS is compatible with Outlook desktops so you can easily transfer information from your PDA to your A388. The phone's EMS capability allows you to add animations, graphics and your own music to standard text messages.
