Of all music forms, electronic music is, by design, the most futuristic. Every year the constantly evolving genre throws up a few new sub-genres for journalists to pontificate over; the styles go in and out of vogue faster than you can say "electroclash." Fads aside, electronic music is here to stay, and to commemorate this issue's future theme, we have compiled a unique 11-track mix of forward-thinking cuts for your aural pleasure. Sample Swedish duo Koop's invigorating electronic jazz and Robert Jan Meyer's Latin-influenced, percussive-driven grooves as Minus 8. J Swinscoe's grossly underrated Cinematic Orchestra provides the cosmic funk, Gabor Deutsch a genre-bending amalgam of urban sounds. Grand Central's Mark Rae has a knack for picking up future-leaning hip-hop acts, and Fingathing is no exception. Guatemala's Radio Zumbido stands alongside Fussible, Kinky and Nortec Collective as a pioneering electronic-fusion act to surface south of the U.S. border. Lovers of so-called broken beats will be familiar with Ohio's breaks specialist, Titonton Duvante. On the deep house side we have Philly's soul sophisticate King Britt (Scuba) providing the smooth beats, while Morgan Page and Frank Cochois (Timewriter) offer house of the "tech" variety. Eric Kowalski (Casino vs. Japan) rounds off the compilation with some signature experimental fare on NYC's Carpark Records.
