Weapon of Choice

Fatboy Slim (2000)

Hassay, who also commissioned this clip, describes the experience:

For “Weapon of Choice,” there was a long and winding road to this one as Norman first hooked up with Spike for discussions about “Bird of Prey.” For the first time Norman had a brief for the video – he wanted it to be about flying but with a gag in it. In the end Spike had to pass and Blue Source went on to deliver their hymn to LSD and we moved on to chasing Traktor for “Ya Mama.”

Meanwhile Astralwerks started to get a big response to “Weapon of Choice” on their Web site and decided they would like to make a video for the US with this track. We didn’t see it as a single in the UK until Spike’s treatment appeared on the fax one December evening and suddenly we were in business.

Shoot-wise this was a million miles from “Praise You.” The Spike Jonze machine in full effect rather than a few people larking around with DV cameras but we enjoyed the fact that it was another choreography idea but coming from the high end. There were other links to “Praise You” as Roman Coppola shot second unit – you can briefly see him on a dolly as we track through the hall of mirrors. Lance Acord was back on the camera and Michael Rooney was again doing the choreography. And so another video juggernaut was unleashed on the world.
