The Anthony d'Offay Gallery asked whether they could have a companion piece when they showed flex but I didn't finish this in time; I finished it a year later. Recently they've been showing them together. [The installation was included in the Venice Biennial.] The idea came from those little mechanical windup monkeys from the last century, the ones with the red faces. I got a book on them. I really loved them. Thought it would be really amazing to see a 21st century one that was drumming to something ridiculously insane like a really fast Aphex Twin track.
