All Is Full of Love

Björk (1999)

As a favorite, this is a close second to the Portishead. Björk had a lot of ideas, and came in with a book of Kama Sutra figures to show me what she was thinking. Sometimes people giving you a brief can be really destructive, because it sends you down a cul-de-sac you can't get out of and she also has such a strong, unique identity. In this case, I managed to fuse her thoughts with an idea about robots, which I wanted to create really badly; it was a long shot but it worked. Much of that is because Björk's attitude is, once she's decided, once she's picked someone to work with, she doesn't get involved after that. She leaves you to do what you want to do. That level of trust makes you want to do your best work. And she comes prepared. She'd already had a life cast of herself done for something else, which we borrowed for the shoot.
