RES Screening (February 1, 2005)

The Editors

The first RES screening of the New Year happens February 1st at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Expect the usual mix of innovative short films and breaking music videos. This date's music video treats include Interpol's "Evil," a troubling puppet-driven work that is the music video debut of acclaimed photographer Charlie White. Also on tap: 2 Many DJs side project Soulwax's video for "E Talking," an alphabetical lesson in pharmacological jargon directed by Evan Bernard; a pair of Fatboy Slim videos involving song, dance and frisky felines, directed by Jon Watts; and "Dream," Dougal Wilson's latest for Dizzee Rascal featuring the rapper as a pint-sized MC spitting his rhymes at bizarre ghetto puppets. Among the short films, Guy Maddin's Sissy Boy Slap Party takes a voyueristic black- and-white look into an enclave of bare-assed sailors who trade in their bongo drums' thump for the slap-happy sound of hands on skin, Mari Umemura's Limb-O-Xtreme examines the latest, remarkably bloody entry into the wide world of extreme sports (who knew self- dismemberment could be so fun?), and Josh Ferranzzano's Orientation provides a new employee orientation film, in which an enthusiastic tour guide tries and fails to gloss over the many supernatural and unpleasant realities of an unusual workplace.

A NOTE ON THE FUTURE OF RES

RES magazine's milestone RESFEST tenth anniversary issue will be the last issue published in 2006. We plan to launch a new hybrid RES publication in 2007, one that will transform this site into a dynamic, daily online destination, while fully integrating all of our content across the multiple platforms of print, Web, DVD and events. Please contact general@res.com with any questions, and watch this space for further updates in the new year.
